Advanced Intaglio and relief printing with Clay Harmon and Matt Magruder Aug 6-9, 2026
This workshop is aimed at printmakers who have had some experience in making intaglio prints with polymer plates. We first offered this class in 2025 and everyone had a blast!
This workshop is four days long, and we will explore methods for using polymer plates for printmaking in ways beyond the simple single-plate, single-ink techniques we teach in our introductory DTP classes.
Some of the topics we will be covering are:
- Evaluating, adjusting, and perfecting a polymer intaglio plate
- making and printing relief plates - suitable for making plates suitable for use on relief presses such as Vandercooks
- Multiple plate intaglio techniques - making duotone prints with two plates
- Printing on difficult substrates - such as plywood!
- Registration techniques
- Editioning techniques
- A la poupee printing
- Chine colle techniques
