The Shopify shopping cart checkout page has an option to sign up for our newsletter. We also allow people to sign up without buying anything.

Here is the bald truth: we don't really do newsletters. What we do is two or three times a year let customers and potential customers know about workshops and new products. 

Our newsletter policy: We won't be a**holes. 

We won't give your information away, we won't pound your inbox with breathless exhortations to buy the latest whatchamacallit every other day. We do this for two reasons: one, we don't want to be jerks, and two, we don't really have a lot of whatchamacallits to flog.
