Hahnemühle Platinum Rag Paper

Regular price $39.85 $0.00

Hahnemühle Platinum Rag is the gold standard in alternative process papers. If a printmaker had to choose only one paper that will work for palladium, cyanotype, salt, vandyke brown and photogravure, this would be the paper we would recommend.

Platinum Rag (often referred to as 'HPR') is designed with the alternative process printmaker in mind. It has a neutral pH, which is needed to get the best results in processes that have acidic sensitizing solutions. Most modern papers are heavily buffered and have alkaline pH values. This buffering in most papers makes getting fine prints in processes such as platinum-palladium and cyanotype impossible without an acidification step prior to coating. HPR is made so this step is unnecessary.

From Hahnemühle's site description:

HPR is an uncoated fine art paper. The natural bright white paper with a weight of 300 gsm is made of 100% cotton fibres. It is acid free and does not contain any alkaline buffering. Along with the optimised sizing, the paper allows for easy coating and clearing for alternative processes.

Hahnemühle Platinum Rag excels with a beautiful tonal range and very deep blacks. The smooth, slightly textured surface lends the paper a pleasant feel-to-the-touch. Both sides have a very good print quality without any noticeable difference while printing both the front and the back.

We sell HPR in 25-sheet packs in several sizes.
